What kit can I borrow for courses and sessions?

The club has a range of canoes and kayaks that can be borrowed for lessons, sessions and also trips. We also have cagoules, trousers, personal floatation aids, spray decks, helmets and paddles.

So if you do not have any equipment, just bring a spare set of suitable clothes (for getting wet) and you can normally borrow the rest. The club has showers and changing facilities so that you can change into your dry clothes after the session.

Canoes include various 1 to 4 person open canoes (e.g. Mad River, Venture, etc.).

Kayaks range from sea trip 'Carolinas', through various general purpose kayaks to a number of smaller river running and playboats (e.g. Wild Things, Pyranha G3s, Perception Arc & Whipits, Liquid Logic Lil Joes, Dagger Dynamos).

Over time, if you enjoy canoeing/kayaking, we expect you will buy your own equipment and leave the club's equipment for other newer members... When you want to know what to buy, advice is contained on the Information page.

If you are looking to take up paddling afresh or renewing an old interest, there are two ways to be a prospective new joiner to the club. Both involve coming along on a Friday Night to either the Beginners or Improvers sessions. Each set of sessions allows the club to assess your current standard and help you attain the British Canoe Union (BCU) 2-Star standard, if you have not already achieved it.

After successfully completing either of these courses in a kayak or canoe, members can take part in a wide variety of events throughout the year (as shown on the Members and Trips pages).

To ask more about these sessions or inquire about the club, email us at AVCC or call one of the club members listed on the Contacts page.

Beginners and Improvers Sessions

Sessions are held every Friday evening between the months of May and September, leading to the British Canoe Union (BCU) 1-Star and 2-Star standard in either canoe or kayak.

See the Courses page for details of future courses

If you want to join a course, send an email to info@axevalecc.co.uk for further information and an application form.

Please arrive between 6:00 and 6:15pm on Fridays so we can be on the water by 6:30pm.
