Club Trips or Casual Trips
Please be careful to distinguish
official AVCC Club events/trips from more casual trips:
AVCC Events/Trips conform to our
risk assessments and, at present, only Geoff, Phil, Nick
and Tash would be qualified to lead Club trips. Club
trips are organised and communicated through Hays.
Casual trips
organised between members are not club trips and
everyone is responsible for their own safety on these
trips. You must be capable and confident on the type of
water and conditions.
What kit can I borrow for courses and sessions?
The club has a range of canoes and kayaks that can be borrowed for
lessons, sessions and also trips. We also have cagoules, trousers, personal floatation
aids, spray decks, helmets and paddles. So if you do not have any
equipment, just bring a spare set of suitable clothes (for getting wet) and you can normally borrow the rest. The
club has showers and changing facilities so that you can change into your
dry clothes after the session. Canoes include various 1 to 4 person open
canoes (e.g. Mad River, Venture, etc.). Kayaks range from
sea trip 'Carolinas', through various general purpose kayaks to a number
of smaller river running and playboats (e.g. Wild Things, Pyranha G3s,
Perception Arc & Whipits, Liquid Logic Lil Joes, Dagger Dynamos). Over time, if you enjoy
canoeing/kayaking, we expect you will buy your own equipment and leave the
club's equipment for other newer members... When you want to know what to
buy, advice is contained on the Information page.

Club Nights
Tuesday - Open Boats
The Tuesday night sessions run from the 3rd May
2011 and are
are
for Open Boat 1-Star courses and Kayak 1-Star courses.
‘Intermediate’ paddlers then continue on a Tuesday
(after they become members) to progress to their 2-star.
Wednesday - 2-Star Plus Paddlers
The members club night is held every Wednesday evening running between April and September
and is for more experienced paddlers (assessed as at least BCU 2-star
standard) - both kayak and open boats. There is no formal instruction
provided on Wednesdays and it is an opportunity for members to have a
paddle out to sea, on the estuary or surf. Under 18 year old will be
supervised by a coach. Members can learn further skills from the other
paddlers such that they can progress to opportunities for further BCU skill assessments.
For 2011, Wednesday Club Nights will start on 13th April and end
on TBD September. Please arrive 6:30 to 6:45pm so we can be on the water at 7:00
pm.
Remember you need to be at least 2-Star level to attend on Wednesdays;
if in doubt please contact Tash or Geoff...
Friday Improvers Night
The Friday night sessions run from 13th May 2011 and are for Kayak
1-star courses. ‘Intermediate’ paddlers continue on a Friday (after they
become members) to progress to their 2-Star. So these sessions are to help members work towards their 2-Star
assessment which is usually run around September
Intermediate paddlers should arrive between 6:30 and 6:45pm so we
can be on the water by 7:00pm.
