Axe Vale Canoe Club in conjunction with the Open Canoe Association
is proud to announce the 22nd Bob's Open Canoe Weekend
from 1st to 3rd July 2011.

This event was the first in Britain designed to introduce ‘Open Canoeists’ to estuary and coastal canoeing. It is referred to as Bob's Open Canoe Weekend after Bob Ottley who died in 2008.

This annual event is especially for Open/ Canadian Canoeists to experience estuary and coastal canoeing. As usual there will be a varied programme of skill development (equivalent 1 and 3 star BCU), assessment (1 star) and scenic paddles along the Jurassic coast. It is also a great way to make and renew friendships in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The campsite (Axe Farm Camping), which is located on the side of the estuary at Axmouth, accepts caravans, motor caravans and tents; it has showers, a shop and unit electric supply points are available on the main site.

Only basic skills are needed, but kit requires to be of BCU 3*Star standard: helmet, buoyancy aid and spare paddle. Each canoe to have 12.5kg (30lbs.) minimum buoyancy securely fixed at each end.

The Outline Programme will include:

  • Comprehensive ‘open canoe’ paddling

  • Saturday evening: Your campfire BBQ’s and / or village Inn.

  • There are two Inn’s adjacent to the campsite that serve meals, one Inn has a large Family room.

Please Note:

Event programme may be amended to suit participants skills & requirements; all times are approximate and an evening paddle may be offered. The event programme is dependent upon the weather and prevailing conditions and therefore means that the programme may be amended or cancelled.
