The Open Canoe Association and Axe Vale Canoe Club ran a 1 to 3 Star
Open Boat Skills course in July. It was the first event
in Britain designed to introduce ‘Open Canoeists’ to estuary and coastal
canoeing. This marked the 20th Anniversary of this very popular
event, and in celebration of his memory, it will now be referred to as
Bob's open canoe Weekend, after Bob Ottley who died in 2008.
Over the years the weekend has expanded into four days offering a varied
programme of skill development (1 to 3 Star), assessment, scenic paddles
along the Jurassic coast - and of course, a chance to meet and renew
friendships (i.e. BBQs and drink).
The event is based at Axmouth in Devon and camping facilities are
available.
